THE PRESIDENT Of Zanzibar And Chairman Of The Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, Has Said That The Government Will Continue To Support Efforts To Prepare More Zanzibar Youth To Become Space Experts.
Dr. Mwinyi Said This When He Met With Five Students Who Were Selected To Visit NASA Headquarters In Washington D.C., USA, As Well As Participate In The NASA International Space Apps Challenge 2025 Competition To Be Held In Ibra, Oman. The Meeting Was Held At The Zanzibar State House Today, August 25, 2025.
The Opportunity Is Due To The Great Ability They Showed When They Participated In The International IASC (International Astronomical Search Collaboration) Program On The Discovery Of Asteroids In Collaboration With NASA (National Aeronautics And Space Administration) Of The United States. A Total Of 22 Students From The Karume Institute Of Science And Technology, The National University Of Zanzibar And Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University Who Participated As The Zanzibar Space Team And Succeeded In Discovering New Asteroids Through Space Images Sent By NASA To The Astrometrica Program.
The Permanent Secretary Of The Ministry Of Education And Vocational Training, Khamis Abdulla Said, Has Named Majid Khalfan Omar, Nadhifa Mashaka And Is-Haka Harith Salim As Visiting NASA Headquarters In The United States, While Mulhat Abdallah And Feisal Issa Minchoum Are Expected To Attend The Hackathon In Oman.
For Her Part, The Director Of The Royal Astronomy And Space Society, Amina Ahmad, Said They Intend To Establish Space Tourism In Zanzibar As Well As Launch Special Training Programs For Students From Various Schools To Learn The Profession.
The Entire Exercise Has Been Coordinated By The Ministry Of Education And Vocational Training Zanzibar In Collaboration With The Civil Society Organization Royal Astronomy And Space Society Along With Eng. Abdulwahab Al Busaidi From The Oman Astronomical And Space Society.
During The Visit, Which Is Expected To Begin In October 2025, Students Will Be Given Training On Space Science, Innovation And Various Technologies That Will Enable Them To Improve Professionally And Academically.
